A native of Northwest Florida, Carin received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and a law degree (J.D.) from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
In 2005, Carin was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame. Also, Cumberland School of Law awarded her the Daniel Austin Brewer Professionalism Award in 2009.
